About Me

Welcome to my blog!

This blog is about my journey to become a Master .NET coder and teacher.

Prior to the fall of 2008, I was a Controls Engineer for 23 years. I owned an engineering consulting firm for 8 of those years and previously held positions such as engineer, Engineering Manager, and Project Manager. For those of who don't know, "Controls Engineering" is a discipline that encompasses electrical engineering and software development for manufacturing automation equipment and processes. In other words, we worked with/for machine builders and manufacturers on the equipment and processes that produce, assemble, test, and package our products, such as cars, food, paper, electronics, etc.

During those years, I was experience in VB and had completed several VB projects. A few examples are: a machine that cut window blinds to length (VB CE), inspection machine for medical industry (incorporating vision system, servos, and various DIO), data handling processes between plant floor equipment and business systems, etc. On occasion, I was asked to step out of our primary business model and help out disadvantaged businesses. One such example: a Windows app in VB for Business Planner software.

In 2008 I became ill and disabled. I was forced to take a long break. We all know that too long of a break can put you far behind on the technology curve. Well I'm back and ready to advance my knowledge and skills.
I've decided to start from the beginning, assume that I do not know anything about coding. Why? In the past, I learned in pieces, grabbing what I needed to complete jobs. So there were gaps. By starting at the beginning now, I can fill in all the gaps and truly achieve my goal. I'm starting with C# 4.0 using Visual Studio 2010 Express (wish I still had my MSDN subscription).

By the way, one of my first goals is to create a website to assist disadvantaged and non-profit companies with their software needs providing my services and inviting my fellow coders to donate our time. But to achieve this goal, I need help. Visit my Donate page to see if you can help me.
